Romodi Onager vs Agate Starhawk

I brought Romodi on a Testbed Onager, an EST/LTT Arquittensn and a pair of Gozantis with Hondo/Vader and Comms Net. My squadron ball consisted of Maarek/Jendon, Boba, Tel, Dengar, Mauler, and Black Squadron. On the other side, Andy brought a Starhawk with a pair of GR75s and a Rogue ball. Andy had the bid and took second. I picked his Contested Outpost. Here is the opening of round 1:

In the first round, I stripped some shields from the front of the Starhawk and dropped to speed 0 with my Onager. Here is the opening of round 2:

In the second round, I tied up some of his squadron while hitting the Starhawk with Maarek, Jendon, and Boba. Here is the opening of round 3:

In the third round, I continued to hammer the Starhawk with Boba and Jendon as well as the Starhawk (now throwing black dice) and the Arquittens. The Starhawk was taking on some hull damage at this point. Here is the opening of round 4:

In the fourth round, I activated the Arquittens first and brought the Starhawk down to just a few hull remaining. Andy was able to destroy the Gozanti that obstructed the Starhawk and Onager. The Onager then finished the Starhawk off pretty handily which resulted in a solid win for the Imperials.

Andy was trying to drop the Arquittens to speed zero and kill it early, hence he lingered a bit too long at speed 1. This let me wait him out while putting in a solid amount of damage. I think if he had approached at a consistent speed 2, he would have been able to power through my Arquittens and deliver some punishment to the Onager. I’m not sure if it would have been sufficient for the win, but it would have been much closer. Furthermore, Contested Outpost is a weak objective as it forces the 2nd player into an unfavorable position relative the Onager.

Onager vs Onager Mutual Tabling

For this game, I brought Screed on an OSD with Cataclysm, Pryce, GCV, Veteran Gunners, LTT, and the Orbital Bombardment Cannons; a Raider 2 with Corvus, HIE, DCaps, and Iden; a Gozanti with Hondo and Comms Net; and a Decimator ball. On the other side, Andy brought a Vader Cymoon, Onager Testbed (with Rakehell), Gozanti, Jonus, and 5 TIEs. He had the bid, picked second, and I chose Contested Outpost. Here is the opening of round 1:

In the first round, I positioned Corvus to hit the Cymoon, activated my OSD last thanks to Pryce, and scored a Bombardment Cannon crit on the ISD. Here is the opening of round 2:

In the second round, I activated the Raider first, stripped some shields from the ISD, and managed to keep at long range of the Cymoon. This did not save me as Andy managed to score six damage and three accuracies—just enough to pop the Raider. The Cymoon was still in my ignition arc so I hit it hard and moved aggressively toward Andy’s Onager, hoping to tank a single hit and escape on the following round. My Decimators went to work on the Cymoon, bringing it down to 4 health remaining and no shields or brace token. Andy stripped the shields from the front of my Onager with his own and I pulled the crit effect that does not allow me to resolve accuracies. The worst. Here is the opening of round 3:

In the third round, I activated my OSD and stripped the shields from Andy’s Onager. I also destroyed the Cymoon with a broadside. I then jumped forward and out of of the ignition arc, though Andy did still have the double-arc shot on my OSD. He was able to finish it off, but I also got two salvo shots in return that softened him up for the Decimators to finish off. Here is the closing board state after the mutual tabling:

This was a record fast game. I really liked the OSD with its powerful broadside and superior salvo. Both of these things helped a lot. Still, Onager on Onager fighting is a bloody affair. Had I used Corvus against the Onager instead of going head-to-head with the Cymoon, I might have been able to preserve that asset after using my Heavy Ions.

Andy did manage to score a single victory token from the station, giving him the 20 point MOV win. Great game!

2020 Vassal World Cup vs Brobafett

In this game, I was paired against BrobaFett, who was running Sloane Aces with an ISD2 and Quasar. He also had the bid and I knew that I was going second. He picked my Rift Ambush and then put his ISD down first I placed my fleet on the other side of the pile of obstacles. My goal here was simply to either separate his Quasar and ISD or force them both to fly through the rocks. After deployment, I moved he rocks to cause as much trouble as I could and then made the Quasar do a speed one maneuver onto a rock and increased its speed. Broba set Pryce for round 2. Here is the opening of round 1:

In the first round, I positioned the Dictor and Demo to pounce on the Quasar before it could activate. I was not at all focused on the squadron play and ended up blundering quite a bit in my placement of Tel in relation to Dengar. Here is the opening of round 2:

In the second round, Broba used his ISD with Flight Controllers and a Hondo token to alpha-strike my squadrons and scalpel Dengar out first followed by Morna Kee before either could activate. In return, Demo was able to score a couple damage from long range (Thanks Romodi) and then unload the ExRacks at close range to finish it off without any help from the Dictor. Here I could have cut and run, but I figured that if I did, Broba would be able to kill my Gozanti and the rest of my squadrons and pull off the win. I knew I needed to try for the tabling. Not ideal. I was basically hoping for a terrible roll from his ISD. In the squadron phase, I managed to kill Saber Squadron with my Decimators. Here is the opening of round 3:

With help from Maarek/Jendon, Broba was able to drop the Dictor after I clipped my own Rift in he fourth round. We called it at that point as there was no way for me to kill his ISD and Demo was exiting the fight. Here is the final game state:

In the end, given the loss of my Gozanti and remaining Decimators, Broba won 302-122. This was a tough match for me and I knew that going in. I think I made the mistake of focusing on the Quasar. Broba’s ISD was equally well suited as a carrier and was able to compensate for the loss without issue. Had I focused on the ISD instead of the Quasar, that would have been the better option. Going for the Quasar first and then realizing that I needed to kill the ISD as well put me dreadfully out of position for the optimal follow up. In any case, great game from Broba!
